BaZi Calculator · Four Pillars

Free BaZi calculator

Enter a birth date and see your four pillars, Day Master and element balance. The calculation runs in your browser and your birthday is never sent to a server.

Used to convert to the local time zone and true solar time. If your city is not listed, pick “Other”: your device’s time zone is used and no true solar time correction is made.

Supports 1900 to 2100. Without a birth time, only the year, month and day pillars are calculated.

What this calculator does

Four Pillars

The year, month, day and hour of birth are each written as a pair of characters, a heavenly stem plus an earthly branch. Four pairs, eight characters, hence “BaZi”, eight characters. The year changes at Lichun (start of spring) and the month at the solar terms known as jie, not at Lunar New Year or the first of a calendar month.

True solar time

Clock time and the sun’s real position differ. The further a birthplace sits from the standard meridian of its time zone, the bigger the gap, and the equation of time adds a seasonal wobble on top. Once you choose a city, the calculator converts before it fixes the hour pillar.

Day Master and elements

The Day Master is the stem of the day pillar: one of wood, fire, earth, metal or water, in a yin or yang form. The element balance weighs the stems and the hidden stems inside each branch. It is a relative share, not a score.

Limits

Schools differ on the hour of Zi, hidden-stem weights and chart strength. This page uses a stated default; see our method notes. Results are for self-reflection and cultural curiosity, not prediction.

BaZi calculator FAQ

Can I calculate without a birth time?

Yes. Tick “I don’t know my birth time” and only the year, month and day pillars are calculated. Your Day Master and rough element balance still hold up.

Why does my result differ from another site?

Usually one of three things: whether true solar time is applied, how the late-night Zi hour is handled (split early and late Zi, or switch day at 23:00), and whether the year turns at Lichun or at Lunar New Year. This page applies true solar time, splits early and late Zi, and turns the year at Lichun.

Is the birthday I type saved?

No. The calculation is done by the chart engine inside your browser, and no request carries your birth details.
